Just Announced-Pantone Color of 2014

Thursday, December 5th, 2013

From the Design Director’s Desk- Cia Abbott Bullemer

This is the color chosen via Pantone the Color Experts. They predict what the colors will be-or do they set the trend-? What follows what? The chicken or the egg…

color

Here at Plymouth, we have several different yarns that fill this color range already.  Consider using one of these  for your next cowl, cardigan or baby girl’s cuddly blanket that she will drag around for years to come.  It is just a color that radiates warm sunshine, peace and tranquil emotion.

Baby Alpaca Grande color 834 Baby Alpaca Worsted color 8620, Cleo color 139, DeAire color 7713, Dynamo color # 3, Encore color 958 or color 458, Eros color 7107, Galway 132 or 177, Gina color 1 or color 8, Heaven color 55, Jeannee Worsted color 25, Johanne color 10, Kudo color # 54, Oh My color 9624, Pasea color 1014, Toria color 56, Whitney color 2001, Worsted Merino Superwash color 64 and Sahara color 1312.

Is that enough to choose from?

Because I Love This….

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

I saw this cowl on the neck of our designer Cia in the office a few months back and I just loved the look of it.  I made her take it off and let me try it! I can’t normally wear the bulkier cowls but I love making them as gifts.  This Angora Cowl is for someone like me.  It has a beautiful drape, warm without being bulky and the colors chosen just work so well together.  Did I mention it’s Angora? This would also be beautiful made with Angora Glitz.  So grab that holiday list and check off a name or two with this design!

Happy Halloween!

Tuesday, October 29th, 2013

I refuse to admit that I am behind on my Christmas knitting so I’m celebrating Halloween a little extra this year.  I have severe carpal tunnel that has been plaguing me .  Surgery on righty has been completed, lefty is going under the knife in just a couple of months.  Knitting has been slow going and crochet has been a little easier for me.  That being said….here are some things that make me happy about Halloween.

Meet Kaelin Hearn + DK Merino Fingerless Mitts

Tuesday, October 15th, 2013

I’d like to introduce Kaelin Hearn, our new sales rep for Eastern Pennsylvania and New York. Kaelin began working at Plymouth in 2004 right out of high school and worked around her college courses. She started out in the warehouse, packaging and sorting shipments. Soon after, Kaelin began working on our computers and formatting patterns. She also assisted at photo shoots, contributing her fashion sense to our garment stylings. Some of you may know Kaelin from talking to her on the phone in customer service about yarn shop orders or pattern questions. She was our go-to girl!

Her passion and eagerness to learn about yarn, design and sales shined. In the spring of this year, Kaelin began her journey as a sales rep. Having great customer service and a big heart has helped guide her into her new role. She is an asset at Plymouth. I personally love consulting with her on yarn and pattern trends. She enjoys hosting trunk shows for Plymouth and contributing any knitting trends to the designers and the Plymouth customers.

Kaelin is great at helping guide shops to incorporate the best creative, functional, and current trends into the shops. She is very unique if she isn’t knitting or searching for new designs she is spending time with her very big family or fishing on the weekends.

Kaelin is modelling my newest design. I’m always on the lookout for the perfect pattern that I like to come back to, again and again. Alas, the criteria for such a pattern is high for me.

Here is a working list of some of the must haves for that perfect pattern:

1. Quick to knit, must take 1-2 days to make, no more than that!

2. It must keep my attention- something that isn’t just boring stockinet or garter.

3. Should require only 1-2 skeins. Bonus if it is only 1 skein. I need to use up those impulse buy skeins I get when I go yarn shopping! (You know what I am talking about- they call your name… and you don’t know what to do with them but you can’t just leave them on the shelf!!)

This brings me to my newest design- Twisted Column Mitts.

These mitts meet all of these requirements for me! They only took me one evening to make.  They have a simple cable that adds interest. Lastly, they only require one skein of bouncy, washable and durable DK Merino Superwash.

What are your requirements for that perfect pattern?

Happy Knitting!! –Vanessa

Her Bio:

In Sweden, where I was born, knitting and sewing was part of the weekly curriculum in 3rd grade. That’s where it all started for me. It has been a joyful hobby throughout my life, and after years of working with my husband in our Software Company, and children all grown up, I decided to take my love for textiles to the next level. I’m thrilled to be part of the Plymouth Team, and surround myself with people that share my passion. Weaving, cooking, baking and gardening also have a place in my heart.

Post by Cia Abbott Bullemer

Now that we have had a few nights in the 50′s, it makes me stop and think about all 4 of my baby girls (granddaughters) and their need for warmth and Nonnie lovin’! (This little one isn’t mine, but feels similar when I get to hold her!).

A few years ago, (actually probably 10!) I took a class from Nicky Epstein in Encinitas CA at Common Threads.  She was teaching edgings from her Knitting Over the Edge book.  Well, the simplicity and the brilliance of the corkscrew tassel has followed me thru the years.

Hence the cute “pompom” corkscrew tassels for this cute hat.  It is shown here on our little model, Gianna.  She is the granddaughter of one of our excellent test knitters.  Watch her grow up with us.  She is a dream baby to work with as well.  Always in a good mood and very tolerant of the multiple wardrobe changes!

Back to the hat!  It is made with a new yarn that Plymouth is showing for this season.  It is called Baby Beenz.  Our Jelli Beenz has been such a success over the years that we came to the conclusion we need Baby colors!!!  And here it is! We love the fiber content’s durability wash after wash after wash.

Feel free to ask for it at your LYS and print off this free pattern.  Trust me, you will make it over and over again as well as the corkscrew tassel!!!
