Fall Yarns from Plymouth

I am so excited for our fall line-up of yarns this year.  Many of you have seen them already and were kind enough to share some of your pictures and projects with us.  When we introduce a new line, I normally pick a favorite and go with it.  That is impossible this time around ! There are so many beautiful fibers and colors.  It’s going to be a busy knitting season for sure!  I figured I would share them all with you, in one shot.  I will do my best to give the important information you need, even when I really just want to say “It’s just so pretty, I must have it.”

We have a fantastic crew who gets to pick these fabulous yarns.  It takes a village you know.  They travel to Italy, Turkey, and Peru, just to name a few, to find the highest quality fibers so Plymouth Yarn can offer these to your favorite yarn shops.  We have a team of designers who get to play, I mean work, with all of the contenders.  They are always hard at work visiting trade and fashion shows to see the latest styles.  I consider myself a pretty good knitter but they never cease to amaze me when they demonstrate to us just what these yarns are capable of.

When Saint Patrick wears a scarf….

When Saint Patrick wears a scarf, it must be this one and you won’t need the luck of the Irish to get it done this weekend.  When you are ready to put down your Guinness and pick up your needles,  give this infinity scarf a whirl.  Made from 100% fine merino wool, DeAire is the perfect yarn to warm your soul and neck.

Infinity Scarf
Approx. Finished Measurements: 8” x 66”
Materials:   1 hank DeAire- in each of 2 colors- shown in – Portland 705 and Pueblo 1208.  2 hanks of one color needed if working in just one color.
Needles:   Size 17 needles

Reversible Scallop Lace Pattern Stitch
Row 1 (RS): K3, * yo, K2, K3tog, K2, yo, K1*, repeat * to * across row, end K2.
Row 2: K3, P15, K3.

Using #17 needles cast on 21 sts and work in pattern stitch for 33″ with the first color, attach second color and work for an additional 33″ (if using one color work in pattern stitch for a total of 66″). Bind off loosely. Join cast on end to bind off end by twisting one end 360 degrees before joining with the mattress stitch.
To wear scarf take circle created after joining ends, twist in half and put over head around neck.
Weave in ends.

Yarn Happens(and Happenings!)

I subscribe to just about every knitting magazine or at least get a chance to peek at them here in the office(don’t tell the boss).  This week, I found a real gem and wanted to share it with you.

One of my favorite yarns, DeAire, a super bulky, soft, luxurious, fine merino wool is featured in Vogue Knitting‘s Holiday issue on newsstands November 6th.  Check  out their special Collector’s Issue featuring an A to Z guide of the latest knitting styles.  P is for Poncho! August is always an exciting time here at Plymouth Yarn.  New yarns are arriving and fall orders are leaving.  I love when customers call and thank us for all the boxes of beautiful yarns. We use this next week or two to get ready for the upcoming season.  We kicked it off yesterday with our employee breakfast.  After breakfast, we took advantage of the beautiful weather to snap an employee photo or two.

I love this time of year also because I get to chat about Christmas knitting projects with everyone.  Usually, there is a lot of Encore colors 1386 and 54 heading out the door and I’m excited to use Holiday Lights in some of my projects this year.  It has the same gauge and about the same yardage as Encore Worsted.  Log into Ravelry today and download this free Encore Christmas Stocking pattern (hint- you can also use Holiday Lights).
