There is something very special happening at the Delaware Museum of Natural History! Designer Sharon Silverman has lead her team to create a beautiful and unique yarn bomb experience.
Our favorite component has to be Yarnboa! This cuddly snake is over 40 feet long and constructed mostly of Plymouth Yarns! Almost 9000 yards of yarn were used for this creature which was created to celebrate the museum’s exhibit Titanboa:Monster Snake. The snake is filled with used newspaper and plastic bags. Sharon plans to reconfigure the crocheted creations into blankets, which will be donated to the Friends Association for Care and Protection of Children in West Chester. You can meet her at the museum on Sunday December 14 from 1-3 pm. The Titanboa exhibit will run until January 25th, 2015.
Sharon has been creating beautiful yarn bombs for some time now, you can see some examples of her amazing work on her facebook page. Here are a couple other creations you can see at the museum located at 4840 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, De., 19807.

Our Galway Worsted weight yarn has been in the Plymouth family for a long time. I remember being a teenager, working at my mom’s yarn shop, and selling galway during the felted bag craze. Fun times! It was the perfect yarn for most projects- a durable, 4-ply (feltable) worsted weight with many colors and excellent yardage (210 yards for 100 Grams, to be exact.) It was well loved for fairisle projects, cabling, and held up well to pilling and wear. Oh! And who remembers Galway in a hank?
We’ve expanded the Galway yarn in more than one direction recently. I’ll talk about only one today…..but stay tuned for a smaller (hint hint) Galway version in my next post.
Galway ROVING! Galway Roving is new to Plymouth- it is a singly ply bulky weight yarn that knits up at 2.5 sts= 1″ on a size 15 (10mm) needle.
We love it for chunky weight accessories and outdoorsy kind of knits.
Please enjoy the free pattern for this drop stitch cable cowl. It requires only 3 balls and an evening or two to make. The cowl is worked flat and then stitches are dropped to make a looser, less dense fabric. The ends are then sewn together to make a cowl-loop. Super fun and stylish! Download the free pattern

Were you one of the lucky ones to visit the Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop shops earlier this month? Well the numbers are in and 1150 people started the hop over the four day event! 403 of these fine folks visited every participating shop. Each one saw and average of 680 customers come through their doors. The best part is however, over 3100 pounds of food was donated and $22, 000 was raised for area food shelves. Plymouth Yarn was happy to donate towards giveaways and door prizes for the 8th annual event. Thank you so much for shopping this wonderful shop hop. Once again, if you talk to my boss, tell him I need to be there next year.
Participating shops included:
3 Kittens Needlearts, All About Yarn, Amazing Threads, A Sheepy Yarn Shop, Lakeside Yarn, Darn Knit Anyway, Lila and Claudine’s, Needlework Unlimited, Skeins, The Yarn Garage, and Unwind.
I found this awesome crochet pattern when peeking into our designer’s office. I’m making mine in white Goldrush for my newly remodeled beach theme bedroom. I already bought my jars and battery operated candles! Enjoy the pattern and be sure to share your finished products with us on facebook, twitter and ravelry! We love to see projects!

With winter dragging on, and the days getting a bit longer, I thought I would like something to perk up the winter doldrums. This great yarn, Coffee Beenz, part of Plymouth’s Encore Family, popped onto my needles. I love the sophistication of the outcome and the durability of the fiber content. One thing I also love about this pattern is the possibilities: button it straight on and you get 2 sold stripes of color, or twist it once and you get a checkerboard affect when it is buttoned. Also try just buttoning it part way and leave it slit at the bottom to lay nicely on the nape of your neck.
I hope you find it as much fun as I did to make. It is reversible and the possibilities of color combos is extensive…hey! try it in a solid color too!
Bring on the winter-but arrive in style for the beginning of Spring!

See this cutie! One of our sales reps decided to try out the Dr Zhivago hat by CiD Hanscom Designs. Made with just one skein Passion Fur Yarn and the pattern is found on Ravelry. It just happens that her model was this adorable little guy who braved wearing the hat for long enough to snap the pictures! What a trooper!

“Crochet is alive and well in Minneapolis!” This is evident when you step foot into StevenBe, an elegant yarn workshop located at 3448 Chicago Ave in Minneapolis, MN. Many of you know Steven Berg as the “Glitter Knitter” and his beautiful shop lives up to his reputation with a sparkling chandelier and plush chairs to welcome you. Sit back, grab your hooks and needles and enjoy the lovely mix of animal prints and fine art that adorn the space. Imagine all this while creating your masterpiece with classical music or even a live harp playing in the background. There is lots of great Plymouth Yarn to be had. I think I’m in heaven.
I enjoy speaking to Steven every time he calls. So much so that when I saw this ad in a magazine a couple years back, I had to put it on the wall next to my desk. It reminds me of the rock band pictures I had on my walls as a teenager.
Our Design Director Cia stopped by the shop over the weekend and snapped a couple photos during her visit…..
Plymouth’s Alpaca Puffs, a great addition to any hat or scarf.
So the next time you are in Minneapolis be sure to visit SteveBe and if you happen to be in Rosemount, MN you can visit Steven’s other location, The Yarn Garage and say hi to his mother Christa while you are there!
